Mission

The mission of the Midwest Region of the AAPC is to provide pastoral care, counseling and consultation that is theologically, religiously, spiritually and psychologically informed, ethically sound, culturally relevant, clinically competent, and that invites healing, justice, and growth.

 

Goals

 

I. Collaboration/Partnership

    To be a witness and catalyst in the promotion of justice, healing and growth through

    intentional partnering and collaboration.

 

Strategies:

A. Promote the use of educational resources developed by the Association to address social justice and mental health issues.

B. Identify, promote and share regional educational programs and resources that foster justice, healing and wholeness.

C. Create opportunities for regional conversations that address social justice and healing issues from theological, religious, spiritual, psychological, and intercultural perspectives.

D. Promote collaboration with community organizations, faith communities and other healing professionals around issues of social justice and healing.

Promote intercultural competencies with the aim of increasing justice and healing.

 

II. Community

     Become a nurturing, inclusive multicultural community by developing  

     personal/professional connectedness through hospitality, collegiality, and ministry.

 

Strategies:

Communication and marketing –

Identify potential groups/individuals to target – religious and spiritual institutions and pastoral educators.

Identify/witness who we are and what we do; what distinguishes us. (pastoral care specialists, couples communication, etc. integration/exploration)

III. Formation

      Encourage members to be intentional in their commitment to life-long learning, to

      personal growth, to deepening their faith and spirituality, and to developing their

      gifts for the ministries of pastoral care, pastoral counseling and pastoral

      supervision.

 

Strategies:

A. Support life-long learning re best practices in pastoral care and supervision.

B. Encourage consistent spiritual growth and practice through daily inspirations and thoughts.

C. Care for “soul” of AAPC through support groups, face-to-face, on-line, phone calls, etc.

Promote educational opportunities:

E. Sustain holistic self-care: body/mind/spirit/emotion through exercise, reading, play, diet, yoga and website ideas.

F. Promote integration thru meeting with other committees, reducing competition and encouraging mutuality and collaboration.
